Both discs work

I bought this in July 2024 and both the theatrical and director's cut play normally on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The issue that one of the other reviewers is referring to is that the theatrical cut has choppy playback on some players. Arrow had a replacement programme for the theatrical cut, but it only covered the limited edition as the standard edition was released later and the issue should've been fixed by then. According to some people the issue still existed in the standard edition and Arrow won't replace the discs since the programme only covered the limited edition. However if you buy this standard edition (which for me plays normally) and it has playback issues, you should be able to get a refund since the product is faulty. So don't pass the chance to get this great film becaise you're afraid you'll pay for faulty products (also the director's cut is better). I only give 4 stars for this release because while the film and the extras are great, the image is quite dark in both cuts and is a bit disappointing for 4K HDR. If you already own this film on blu-ray (for example the old Arrow release), I wouldn't upgrade. However if you don't own the film, you should get this edition.

still flawed despite recent reviews

I purchased and subsequently returned this on Amazon. Contrary to the recent review that talks about a much older review, while Arrow Video did address what sounded like an awful stutter in the original version, the newer version isn't free of said stutter - it's just reduced. You might personally not notice this stutter while watching and I'm sure this version may be fine for most people. However, I did notice something was off immediately as I scanned through the movie. Once I skipped a few scenes to where Donnie and his sister are at the bus stop with the other kids, the stuttering became immediately clear as the car drove off in the foreground. There's no doubt that Arrow do some great copies, but they missed the mark with Donnie Darko. I returned my Arrow version and imported another from elsewhere.

Excellent and flawless

Contrary to the other very outdated review on the Donnie Darko 4k, I can report that there is no issue in the playback of either disc or version of the film. The 'choppy playback' was an issue on previous versions that has long since been resolved.  In any case this is a great looking transfer of the film. A mind-bending, trippy and confusing film that is entirely worth the watch, and the 4k is without issues.

Choppy playback

Playback of the theatrical UHD edition is choppy on my high end player. No other disc that I own has this issue, including the directors cut of this UHD release and the Arrow normal bluray theatrical release of Donnie. I own about 40 Arrow discs and hundreds others. Arrow had a replacement program for the limited edition, but they won't even acknowlegde this issue for the regular release. This is extremely disappointing.
