The creator of The Grudge returns with a music themed double feature. While we may not return to the highs of Ju-on there is still an huge amount of dread and artful creepiness that we expect from J-Horror. As always Arrow have presented the films beautifully and I think the artwork makes this my personal favourite of their releases.

The Sana movies are a creepy return to form for the director, and honestly feel like a return to his Ju-On: The Grudge best. The biggest positive for me is Sana herself. She is genuinely unsettling and has that classic J-horror creepiness that makes her presence alone uncomfortable to watch. The story is also really interesting and, most importantly, feels original. I particularly liked the idea of the mysterious music tape and earworm, which gives the films their own identity rather than simply feeling like another Grudge/ring clone. My main negative is how the story is delivered. The actual story is good, but the way it is presented can be confusing at times and makes it harder to fully follow. Overall, though, the creepy atmosphere, Sana herself, the original story and especially the music tape make this a really enjoyable piece of J-horror. It genuinely feels like the director is back to his Grudge best.
