The 1981 horror-comedy cult classic has never looked better. The HDR makes the hiking jacket of ill-fated protagonist David pop with a suitably arterial red. Grain is fine and not distracting. The 4K scan is so good I swear you can count the individual teeth in Jack’s exposed jaw as he’s beckoning David to enter the cinema to talk to him. The film itself is as great as I remember it; although some aspects of the film have maybe not aged so well - its depiction of the NHS is charmingly archaic-  the special effects of the time remain peerless and the transformation scene is as powerful now as it was 40 years ago. Extras are plentiful, the “Beware the Moon” documentary in particular is fantastic. One slight nitpick though - the commentary by actors David Norton and Griffin Dunn really should’ve been marked as archival, as it is at least 20 years old.  The box set presentation is solid with superb artwork. Highly recommended.

I'm torn as to whether I prefer the custom art on this or Tremors. Either way, this is definitely in the top five 4k releases I own. The book is beautifully done, the transfer of the film is dark (in a good way), and the special features are phenomenal. I loved the new documentary on the history of werewolves in film. This release is absolutely worth picking up if you're on the fence.
