'Death Walks On High Heels' (1971) – Luciano Ercoli. Supremely stylish Giallo iconoclast Luciano Ercoli once again successfully reunites with many of the especially fine actors from his skull-wrecking classic 'Death Walks at Midnight', now with the entirely welcome addition of fascinating character actor Frank Wolff, playing urbane Dr. Robert Matthews who quite understandably becomes intrigued by vivacious burlesque dancer Nicole (Susan Scott), and an increasingly warped love triangle begins between flighty, carefree Nicole, the gregarious Dr. Matthews and Nicole's hot-blooded, dipsomaniac boyfriend, and into this unusually spicy melange of fulminating sexual fascination, deadly duplicity, adultery, and an electric blue-eyed, voice-box articulating, razor-wielding maniac, the legendary genre stylist, Gialli supremo Ernesto Gastaldi and capable co-writer May Valasco increase the delightfully labyrinthine nature of their densely red-herring clotted plot, with the additional pristine ballast of stolen diamonds, and the despicable lengths these mercenary individuals will undertake to retrieve them from their hiding place before the stolid and delightfully sardonic inspector Baxter (Carlo Gentili) prevents them from doing so! Excluding the pointed lack of J&B Whiskey,'Death Walks On High Heels' is arguably one of the quintessential 70s Gialli, glamorously utilizing exciting and visually stimulating locations, deliriously jet-setting between the sinfully seamy nightspots of Pigalle in Paris and the bracing bucolic beauty of England's rugged coastline, this joyfully convoluted, stiletto-cool thriller, with its kaleidoscopic array of intimate razor-slashing, hyperbolically sinister, murderously majestic death scenes, and deliciously distraught damsels in diabolical duress makes for a genuinely exhilarating experience, with all of this exquisitely mounted mayhem having been artfully orchestrated by Luciano Ercoli, and mellifluously augmented by one of my all-time favourite Giallo scores from maestro Stelvio Cipriani.
