Arrow Films

A visionary and bizarre slice of Mexican arthouse cinema, is an extraordinary and unsettling film experience, a sexually charged and nightmarish journey into an otherworldly dimension of carnal desire and excess, as well as a powerful allegory on the corrupting power of human desire.

A young brother and sister, roaming an apocalyptic city, take refuge in the dilapidated lair of a strange hermit. He puts them to work building a bizarre cavernous structure, where he acts out his insane and depraved fantasies. Trapped in this maddening womb-like world under his malign influence, they find themselves sinking into the realms of dark and forbidden behaviour.

Mixing the graphic, powerful imagery of Gaspar Noe's and with the surreal, hallucinatory impact of Alejandro Jodorowsky, is a bizarre, psychedelic head trip, mixing intense, outrageously explicit imagery with a profound allegory on the nature of existence, to make this an unforgettable, boundary-pushing experience unlike anything you've ever seen.

What is in the Mexican water?

Overview: A mesmerizing, sex fuelled thrill ride full of grotesque imagery, graphic nudity, real sex between siblings and a baffling plot. We are the flesh deserves to be seen to be believed. Presentation: The disc itself looks and sounds fantastic, with the beautiful imagery really popping thanks to the 1080p HD and 5.1 sound outputs. Only Arrow Video could release a film this graphically stylish at such a high quality. Special Features: The disc is a little light, only containing interviews with the cast and director as well as the original trailer for the film. However, with more modern releases this is sadly the norm. It would be nice however to have seen something about how the sets were designed, as they are some of the craziest environments ever put to film. Verdict: We Are The Flesh is an extremely graphic movie containing real sex that follows an extremely taboo plot involving incest and murder in an end of the world setting. Because of this, it may not be to everyone's taste. However, if the subject matter does not offend you, then We Are The Flesh is certainly worth the watch. I just wish this edition had more meat on the flavourful bones.

A nightmare worth experiencing

We Are The Flesh is not just a movie you watch, it’s a movie you experience. From its bizarre “rebirth dance” to its explicit unsimulated sex, the movie is one crazy and unique ride. Sure, the viscous and visceral content will not be for everyone, but for those brave enough to stay until the mind-warping ending, this movie offers one wholly unique experience. And just when you think the craziness is over after the credits roll, this Arrow Video release has interesting interviews with the actors and director that make this strange movie even stranger and fascinating.  It may not be a movie that satisfies the mainstream crowd but if you’re looking for a unique, bizarre, and scary experience then look no further than Arrow Video’s We Are The Flesh.
