IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE, THE TERROR BEGINS

When a space shuttle crew finds a mysterious spacecraft containing three human-looking creatures in a state of suspended animation, they bring them back to Earth for further investigation.

It's only then that scientists discover that they are in fact a race of space vampires that feed off people's life-force, rather than their blood. So when they escape and run amok in London, the consequences are apocalyptic - and the shuttle crew's only survivor (Steve Railsback) seems to be the only man who can stop them.

Based on Colin Wilson's novel The Space Vampires, with a screenplay co-written by Dan O'Bannon (Alien, Return of the Living Dead) and directed by Tobe Hooper (The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Poltergeist), this lively sci-fi horror romp has a stellar cast including Peter Firth, Frank Finlay and Patrick Stewart - although it's Mathilda May's appearance as the seductive alien leader that attracts the most attention to this day.

Phenomenal 4K

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

This transfer really is superb. Some early shots of the astronauts looked a bit doll like but in the main the film looks brilliant. A very filmic transfer, the lighting is really emphasised and it’s just a Stellar transfer. It looks a very high budget production - very impressed.

Great fun

4 stars out of a maximum of 5

I love how insane this film is. It’s about 5 different genres all mixed together into one wild ride. Tobe Hooper manages to make it work.  The international cut is the superior version of the film because it gives more insight into what happened on the Churchill. The technology they talk about, accelerating to create gravity and the design of the ship with the main thruster on the belly of the ship would actually work. It’s kind of cool that in 1985 they were implementing the idea of thrust gravity into a crazy film like this.

A worthy upgrade

5 stars out of a maximum of 5

Quite the worthy upgrade for this crazy, actually, utterly crazy movie. The audio video characteristics are upgraded though can’t believe how phenomenal the slipcover is. Worth the purchase alone. Arrow really makes magnificent new artwork and this slipcover also feels special to the touch.

A stunning 4K transfer of this sci-fi classic. Also has great extras, and even two cuts of the movie. Totally recommended!
