They Went From Zeroes To Heroes In One Fantastic Weekend.
If you can’t get a date… make one! After proving himself the king of heartfelt teen flicks with Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club, writer-director John Hughes infused the genre with a hefty dose of wacked-out sci-fi comedy in Weird Science, a film where every teenage boy’s wildest fantasies come to life.
Perennially picked-on high school nerds Gary (Anthony Michael Hall, Sixteen Candles) and Wyatt (Ilan Mitchell-Smith) are sick of their status at the bottom of the social food chain. Using Wyatt’s computer, the two hatch a plan to create their dream woman - and following a massive power surge, that woman unexpectedly appears in the form of Lisa (Kelly LeBrock). Gorgeous, intelligent, and blessed with limitless magic powers, Lisa makes the boys’ dreams come true… but what about Wyatt’s gun-toting psycho older brother Chet (Bill Paxton), and the two bullies (Robert Downey Jr and Vamp’s Robert Rusler) determined to put them back in their place?
Inspired by Ec Comics and boosted by a killer soundtrack (including the classic title theme by Oingo Boingo), Weird Science has never looked better than in this new 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray edition, including an extended version of the film and hours of bonus content.

A Fantastically Fun Ride into the Unpredictable
"Weird Science" is a zany and imaginative 1980s classic that whisks its audience away on a fantastical journey filled with quirky characters, outlandish escapades, and a healthy dose of teenage wish fulfillment. Directed by John Hughes, the mastermind behind many iconic teen movies of the era, the film is a blend of science fiction, comedy, and coming-of-age themes that has stood the test of time in its ability to entertain and charm. The story revolves around two socially awkward teenage boys, Gary and Wyatt, portrayed by Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith respectively. Frustrated with their lack of popularity and success with girls, they decide to take matters into their own hands and create the perfect woman using their computer and a bizarre mix of household items. What follows is a hilarious and unpredictable chain of events as their creation, the stunning Lisa (played by Kelly LeBrock), comes to life with a personality as unique as her origin. One of the film's strengths lies in its ability to embrace its own absurdity. The narrative fearlessly explores the consequences of the boys' wild experiment, leading to uproarious situations that blend the ordinary with the extraordinary. Kelly LeBrock's portrayal of Lisa is a standout – confident, sassy, and armed with a knack for turning the mundane into the extraordinary. Her interactions with Gary and Wyatt give rise to some of the most memorable and sidesplitting moments in the film. The film's 1980s charm is impossible to ignore, from the flashy fashion choices and eccentric hairstyles to the iconic soundtrack that perfectly captures the era's spirit. "Weird Science" doesn't shy away from poking fun at itself, embracing the silliness of its premise and turning it into a strength. The visuals, while not groundbreaking by today's standards, still manage to evoke a sense of wonder and amusement. However, "Weird Science" does have its drawbacks. The film occasionally relies on humor that could be seen as outdated or even offensive by today's standards. Additionally, some of the character development feels a bit rushed, with certain plot points not receiving the depth they deserve. In the end, "Weird Science" is a charming blast from the past that delivers on its promise of bizarre fun and unapologetic escapism. It's a celebration of teenage dreams, awkwardness, and the power of friendship. While it may not be a flawless masterpiece, its ability to generate laughter and provide an enjoyable movie-watching experience is undeniable. If you're in the mood for a dose of nostalgia and an adventure into the wonderfully weird, "Weird Science" is definitely worth a watch.
