A presentation piece for sure!

Overview : Versus itself is a sensory overload of action, gore and hilariously choreographed action sequences that I highly recommend and is deserving of its cult following. Don't expect an Oscar winning story here, the film is all about the set pieces. However, I would like to review this particular release itself. Presentation : Versus has never looked nor sounded better than in this Arrow Release. Having owned the DVD for several years, the difference is outstanding. The new director approved 2k scan of the original negative is truly remarkable when compared to the DVD. The film is not known for its picture quality, but this is the best it has ever looked in any release. Furthermore, the option of 5.1 (6.1 for the Ultimate Cut) and 2.0 stereo sound options are a real treat and sound outstanding on any decent home cinema system. Rest assured this is the definitive version of the movie to own, no question. Special Features : The release comes with 2 discs with two versions of the film, the standard 2000, 120minute theatrical and the 2004, 131 minute Ultimate cut with previously unreleased footage as well as a short featurette on the new footage. The standard cut disc contains audio commentary from the director and producer along with a visual essay and a two-part behind the scenes documentary. So there is a lot to get into beyond the film itself. Verdict : Overall this is the definitive edition of a classic, low-budget Japanese release. Packed to the brim with special features and two cuts of the movie in glorious 1080p HD. Versus by Arrow Video is a must own for collectors and movie fans alike.
