The Golden Age of Blu Ray releases

It's incredible that such an obscure film has been released with such high picture quality...and special features. We really are spoilt when it comes to Blu Ray releases of cult films. The Sender had one of the most intriguing VHS box covers ever. There was something about the design that told you this was not going to be your standard film. The very opening of the movie holds true to the promise of an original in a genre that is usually defined by originality in presentation more than in story. I enjoyed it on VHS but the picture and sound were poor quality. Arrow's release of The Sender demonstrates just how much artistry was put into the cinematography, editing and production design. There must be a real art to managing to maintain the look of an old film when rereleasing it, and avoiding the pitfalls of going overboard with modern colour-grading tools. Arrow have done this one perfectly and the commentary by the director is an absolute gem. Here's hoping one day they will release Octavia (1982), Jennifer (1978), or Shadows of the Mind (1980) with special features and equally high-quality restorations.

The Sender

This movie is a bit weird but I actually liked it a lot. The release is good too. Recommended.
