It wasn't really the first film of its kind, but the western all'Italiana - or "spaghetti Western" - was never the same again after Sergio Leone's groundbreaking A Fistful of Dollars, starring Clint Eastwood in the classic role that made him an international icon.
A nameless stranger (Eastwood) rides into the Mexican border town of San Miguel and quickly finds himself in the middle of a bloody battle for power between two rival families, the Baxters and the Rojos. Cannily realising there's money to be made from playing each side against the other, the Man with No Name soon finds himself caught in the crossfire as the body count escalates, his only chance of escape a standoff against the Rojos' mercilessly cruel leader, Ramón (Gian Maria Volonté).
Leone's clever and contemporary inversion of Western archetypes was not only the first entry in a much-beloved trilogy, but the director's first collaboration with the brilliant composer Ennio Morricone. Now fully uncut and freshly restored in glorious 4K with an arsenal of new and old bonus material, the Man with No Name rides again like never before!

No laughing matter...
Big fan of these films and was delighted to hear they were coming to 4K. But not only that, the team at Arrow have restored this film, enhancing the image and sound so well. An absolute joy to watch and packed full of superb extras I am only part way through! The box itself is a work of art - fantastic work and highly recommend!

Can't wait to have the whole set!
Overall, I was genuinely impressed with what Arrow has achieved with this 4K release of A Fistful of Dollars. The HDR really elevated the darker scenes, adding depth and atmosphere without crushing detail. One thing that stood out was how well the transfer handled faces, closeups looked incredible, with skin textures and expressions coming through so clearly. The grain was quite noticeable in the early daylight sequences, but that’s part of the charm and let’s be honest, most of us are probably into that anyway. It might sound strange, but the image quality almost seemed to improve as the film went on, maybe I just adjusted to the look, but by the end it felt genuinely stunning.

Stunning
Had many copies of this over the years, each “new” restoration has looked good… but this really is something else. Arrow never disappoint and the packaging, booklet and extras are fantastic. And it’s really easy to say, I don’t think you’ll ever see this any better. Beautifully restored and makes the previous restorations look a bit cheap. The legendary Leone face as landscapes close ups are so good, you can even see Eastwood’s enamel fills on his front teeth. I thought the recent 4K of Once Upon A Time In The West couldn’t be bettered but these are equally stunning. Bravo!

When a man with 45 meets a man with a rifle...
This is another beautifully packaged effort from Arrow, with a reversible sleeve featuring original and new artwork which is duplicated on an included double sided fold out poster. A perfect bound collector's booklet features a number of great essays. Everything is housed in a really handsome slipbox.
